The movie’s central character, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is an ex Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake was chosen to be a part of the Avatar program, which will permit him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lavish jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon packed with unbelievable life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race, who are considered prehistoric, yet are more physically competent than humans. Standing three meters tall (around 10 feet), with tails and bright blue skin, the Na’vi exist in concord with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora’s forests in pursuit of precious minerals, the Na’vi unleash their awesome warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence.

Avatar was initially prepared for release on May 22, 2009 during filming, but the movie was set back to December 18, 2009. This was done to allow more post-production time, and to also give extra time for theaters worldwide to install 3D projectors. The film’s aspect ratio will be 1.85:1 in 3D, but a CinemaScope (2.35:1) format will be extracted for 2D screenings. Avatar will also be released in IMAX 3D.The first photo of the movie was released on 14 August 2009, and Empire Magazine released exclusive images from the film in its October issue.

* Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow: An undercover spy posing as Stark’s associate. Johansson was cast after a scheduling dispute required Emily Blunt to drop out of the role.
* Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer: Rockwell was considered for the role of Tony Stark in the original movie, and he took the role of Hammer without reading the script. He had never heard of the character before he was contacted about the role, and was unaware Hammer is an old man in the comics, whereas in the film he will be considerably closer to Stark’s age. He will perform as one of the movies prime antagonists, possibly the main one.
